FBS, a program for railway operation planning has been developed since 1993, which combines the possibilities of today's PC technology with scientific calculation methods and the experience of the daily railway operation. FBS provides the planner with a powerful tool for all aspects of timetable planning, and reuse of the resulting data.
FBS not only eliminates the manual drawing of graphic timetables, but also eliminates the need to manually pick up timetable data in the creation chain. Integrated planning processes have hitherto been broken by changes of media, the danger of transmission errors or inactivity due to lengthy coordination processes did not correspond, in particular, to the changing railway market, particularly in urban transport.
FBS supports the operator from the initial conception to the daily timetable printing as far as possible. Complex solutions are proposed and tested for feasibility without prejudging the user's decision. FBS cannot and should not replace the operator. Time saved in the planning by automatic route searching gives more freedom for creativity and flexible response to customer requirements.
FBS transfers science into everyday life. Complex formulas and methods of travel time calculation, which until now were only used in railway research, can be used for the first time in the planning process. Decision-making processes for investments in the vehicle or track are well-founded and can be documented. Computer aided railroading becomes the real possibility.
Many customers at home and abroad make use of the advantages of FBS. Graphic work, universal applicability on many computer platforms, integration of almost all railroad-specific planning processes, from infrastructure assessment over data transfer to passenger information systems as well as practice-oriented development and customer-oriented testing from university through planning office to the state railway convince customers already.
It is now possible to purchase a license (FBSprivat) for non-commercial use, including an installation program. In the FBSprivat version engineer the following modules are included:
- Module Graphic timetable
- Module Station timetable
- Module Arrival and Departure poster
- Module Customer´s timetable
- Module Driver´s timetable
FBSprivat also includes selected sample files and selected engine data from Central European rail vehicles. Since FBSprivat is designed for railway enthusiasts, older engines (i.e. trains which were developed before the railroad reform, a change or expansion of the stock is not possible) and historical extension data are available. For the construction and presentation of timetables there are no restrictions compared to the much more expensive commercial version FBSbahn. Program components which are necessary only in commercial use (for example, the functions of train kilometer calculation and timetable evaluation) are not included in the scope of supply.
